My research is focused on the rheology of rocks, that is, the behavior of deforming rocks when subjected to tectonic stresses. Through observations down to the nm-scale using electron-microscopy techniques (e.g. SEM, EBSD, TEM), I try to understand the processes involved in the flow of rocks within the Earth’s interior. I previously studied banded-iron formations deformed at conditions of the upper crust and peridotites deformed at the lab with the help of heavy machinery.
Currently, I am experimentally investigating how sudden releases in pressure, for example during seismic events, affect fluid-rock interactions in the Earth’s crust.
